About this plan
The kingdom of God is the heart of Jesus’ preaching: God’s rule coming near, in his words and works and in the lives of those who follow him. This plan reads fourteen days of Matthew, Luke, John, Acts and Romans to see what Jesus says the kingdom is like, who belongs to it and what it asks of us.
It begins in Matthew 3–5, with John’s call to repent and Jesus’ announcement that the kingdom has come near. Then come the Sermon on the Mount, the miracles, and the parables of Matthew 13 on day 4. Luke takes the next five days, including the mustard seed, the great banquet and the parables of the lost in chapters 13 to 15. John 3 on day 11 speaks of being born again to see the kingdom, and the plan closes with Acts 1 and Romans 14.
Christians differ about how far the kingdom is already here and how far it is still to come. These readings keep both in view.
